Yarn Estimator

Put in your project type and yarn weight and you'll know exactly how many skeins to grab. No more guessing at the store.

How to Use the Yarn Estimator

  1. Pick your project type. The dropdown is grouped by category — accessories, garments, blankets, baby items, and more. Find yours and select it.
  2. Choose your yarn weight. Lace, DK, worsted, chunky, and everything in between. Not sure? Check the label — it usually has a little skein symbol with a number on it.
  3. Hit Calculate. You'll get an estimate of how many yards you need.
  4. Print your results. The Print My Results button gives you a clean sheet you can bring to the yarn store so you don't have to squint at your phone in the aisle.

Keep in mind: These are estimates based on typical project sizes. If you're making something oversized or you tend to knit tight, adjust accordingly. When in doubt, grab an extra skein — most stores will take back unwound yarn.
